Artist-led workshops
We offer an exciting range of artist-led workshops suitable from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 5.
Please note our artist-led workshops get booked up quickly and we have very limited availability for the rest of the academic year. You are welcome to visit for a teacher-led visit during this time.
Explore new ways of looking, thinking and making with artists at The Hepworth in our range of practical workshops.
These skills-based workshops are led by artists who take students on a creative journey, gathering inspiration from artworks in the galleries and developing these ideas through creative work in our learning studios.

Workshop cost: £185, 10% discount for Wakefield district schools. All materials and resources are provided.
Duration: 1 hour 50 minutes
Suitable for: Up to 33 students per workshop. Workshops are tailored to your group and key stage.

Nearly all our workshops focus on artist Barbara Hepworth and her inspiration and artwork.
Our workshops support a broad and balanced curriculum and enhance student’s cultural capital. They link directly with the national curriculum and develop visual literacy and critical thinking through discussion.

Create & Construct
For Key Stage 2 - 4 (available Wed - Fri until 24 May)
Our new Create & Construct workshop takes students on an exploration of sculpture inspired by our special exhibition Kim Lim: Space, Rhythm and Light.

For Key Stage 1 - 5
Exploring Barbara Hepworth’s inspiration of the landscape, students will create layered drawings in the galleries. In the learning studios students will explore the printmaking process and create their own collagraph prints, inspired by their drawings.

Using Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures as inspiration, students will experience a series of drawing activities that explore tone, texture and line. They’ll then develop these techniques in our learning studios, experimenting with different materials.

Using a range of tools and techniques, students will create clay sculptures inspired by natural objects and the shapes and textures of Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures.

For Key Stage 1 - 3
Students will be taken on a journey through the felt making process, developing their understanding of textiles. Using inspiration from Barbara Hepworth’s artworks, students will create expressive, colourful felted fabric.

This workshop takes place solely in our galleries, and does not include studio time.
Students will discover more about Barbara Hepworth’s life, artwork and her connection with the Yorkshire landscape before creating sculptures inspired her artwork.
