Pattern, Print and Clay
1hr 50min artist-workshop for KS1 - KS4
Book our special workshop based on our exciting ceramics exhibition Playing with Fire: Edmund de Waal and Axel Salto.
Inspired by our exhibition Playing with Fire: Edmund de Waal and Axel Salto, students will explore the organic forms and repeat patterns of Salto’s ceramics, and how he brought them to life through his playful embrace of risk.
Session Overview:
Through a series of creative drawings and activities in the galleries students will explore the importance of line, colour and pattern in Salto’s work. They will also have the unique experience of experimenting with air-dry clay in the galleries to create 3D forms.
In the studios, students will continue their playful explorations to create repeat patterns combining monoprint techniques and clay.
Throughout the workshop students will develop their understanding of texture, pattern and working in 3D, while being encouraged to experiment and take creative risks inspired by Salto’s inspiring approach to art.
Take back to school
Students will create their own mini clay pots using white air drying clay and a clay sculpture using air dry modelling clay. Once fully dry (at school) they can be painted, or left as their natural colour. They’ll also create a number of drawings and prints.
Please bring boxes to transport the work back to school.
