Create & Construct

1hr 50min artist-led workshop for KS2 – KS4. Available Wednesdays - Fridays until Fri 24 May.

During our Create & Construct workshop students will be taken on an exploration of sculpture inspired by our special exhibition Kim Lim: Space, Rhythm and Light.

Session Overview

In the exhibition students will be introduced to the ideas and processes in Kim Lim’s work through a series of drawing and sculpture activities. Students will learn about the materials, shapes and forms in her artwork to develop their sculptural understanding and collect inspiration for their own 3D artwork.

In the learning studios students will work together to create temporary wooden sculptures, playfully stacking, assembling and balancing forms that they’ll then record through drawing.
Using shapes they recorded in the galleries they will use a variety of construction techniques to create card sculptures, bringing together skills they’ve developed in the workshop to create final 3D outcomes.

The session concludes with a collaborative exhibition of the students’ sculptures, prompting reflection and discussion.

Take back to school

Students will each have a 3D card sculpture and drawings from the gallery and of their temporary sculpture. Please bring boxes to transport the work back to school.
