Felt & Stitch Workshop

Sat 17 & Sun 18 July 2021, 10.30am - 4pm

Join us at the gallery with Wakefield-based artist Helen Riddle for a weekend introduction to creating texture in wet-felting and stitched surface decoration, focused on the natural environment and creating lichen, fern and moss.

After looking at ways of creating the textures of the forest floor in felt by incorporating different fabrics into the process, you will combine wet-felting techniques with the opportunity to try your hand at needle felting, using an embellisher, free-motion machine embroidery and hand stitch to create your own hanging or decorative panel.

About the artist

Helen Riddle was awarded the City and Guilds Medal for Excellence in Constructed Textiles in 2014 and now works from her studio at The Art House, Wakefield.

Her work combines wet and needle felting with free-motion embroidery, hand stitch and print. She has recently exhibited at Artwalk Wakefield and Leeds Industrial Museum and her work can be seen at events and galleries around the UK. Helen’s rhubarb and heron brooches are stocked at the Hepworth Wakefield shop.
