Planning what to do with children during the Christmas Holidays? Explore, dream and play at The Hepworth Wakefield this festive season!

We’re open every day during the Wakefield school holidays*, offering an array of activities to try: from resources and trails through the galleries, to drop-in workshops led by local artists where you can make something to take home.

It’s the perfect opportunity to get creative as a family.

*The gallery will be closed for Christmas on Tue 24, Wed 25, Thur 26 Dec.

FREE with an exhibition ticket.

Exhibition tickets are FREE for Members, Wakefield District residents and under 18s.

Non-Wakefield residents can get 50% off a standard adult ticket when visiting with a child during the Wakefield school holidays. Use discount code FAMILY50 when booking online or in person. (One discounted adult ticket per child.) Full price entry to the exhibitions is £14 / £12.50 for non-Wakefield District residents.

Where to eat

Our café serves food for children or bring a packed lunch to enjoy in our indoor picnic area.

Facilities

The Hepworth Wakefield is accessible, has baby changing facilities and plenty of room for buggies and pushchairs. For access information about the gallery please visit our access page.

Please note that the playground is currently closed for redevelopment.

Family Workshop: Festive Clay

Add a sprinkle of festive cheer to your home and make a wintery decoration inspired by Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures.

In the galleries explore Hepworth’s sculptures and make drawings of your favourite shapes and patterns. Back in the Clore learning studios experiment with white air-drying clay and natural objects to make textured mini sculptures to take home.

Join us for a drawing feast!

Visit the galleries with your family to explore artworks in the Still Lives exhibition. Play i-spy with flowers, food and objects and collect ideas for your drawings.

In the Clore learning studios take your place at the drawing table and make your own still life inspired by your visit to the gallery. Younger children can experiment with flowers, natural objects and still life treasures in the sensory play area.
