New artist edition by Lewis Hammond now available to buy
09 Jul 2026
To accompany his first major solo exhibition in the UK, Crystal in the Shade, Lewis Hammond has created a special soft ground etching in an edition of 30. Hammond’s edition, 'study after Fidelitas in Arduis', continues the themes of home and belonging from the exhibition. The edition is exclusive to The Hepworth Wakefield.
In his paintings Hammond reconsiders the history of painting and its relationship with religious iconography and allegory. While rabbits are traditionally associated with fertility, in Hammond’s work they are laden with more ambiguous meanings.
For Hammond the rabbit provides a means of exploring aspects of the human condition without depicting the human figure. The recurring motif of tight architectural alcoves frame Hammond’s subjects, serving as both a container and an amplifier of the emotions they provoke.
‘Hammond’s rabbits appear restless and alert, imbued with the spectrum and complexity of human interiority.’ mutualart.com
