No matter how small a space you have, you can grow herbs, whether on balconies, in containers, in backyards or in the home. The Hepworth Wakefield Cultural Gardener Katy Merrington will guide you in choosing the best herbs for your environment and how to grow them. You will be inspired to experiment with new varieties and bring new flavours to the kitchen.
Katy will provide tips in planting combinations, introduce growing media and soil preparation, and demonstrate plant maintenance techniques. You will also learn how to plan for successional herbs for all seasons including unusual varieties, gain tips for edible flowers and learn the best plants for herbal infusions.
At the end of the workshop you will have taken cuttings and sown seeds to take home three different herb varieties.
About the tutor
Katy Merrington has been Cultural Gardener at The Hepworth Wakefield since 2019, where she works to plant and maintain The Hepworth Wakefield Garden, designed by Tom Stuart-Smith. Katy has worked in some of the best gardens in the UK and USA including Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh at Logan, Dumfries & Galloway and Longwood Gardens: Pennsylvania, USA. Katy studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and has conducted freelance projects for galleries across Newcastle as well as leading a programme of family and engagement events in a wide range of gardens and art spaces. A two week cancellation policy applies to all workshops. As commercial workshops support our charitable activities, and materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than two weeks before the workshop date should you wish to cancel your place.
Should The Hepworth Wakefield need to cancel a workshop, your ticket will be refunded in full.
