Teacher CPD: Exploring Textiles in the Classroom
Wednesday 17 June, 4 - 5.45pm, FREE
Book NowJoin artist Harriet Fletcher for a practical CPD session exploring accessible and creative ways to introduce textiles into the classroom.
Inspired by our new exhibition Mrinalini Mukherjee: Unbound Forms, experiment with a range of textiles processes.
During the session you will transform textile materials into soft sculptural forms through cutting, wrapping and manipulating with wire.
You’ll also explore weaving techniques, linking with Yorkshire’s textiles heritage.
There will also be opportunity to explore simple textiles techniques to take back to the classroom such as tassels, coiled fabric vessels and simple embroidery.
Throughout the session Harriet will share ways to adapt ideas for a range of ages and classroom settings, and ways to build in progression.
The session is designed to include limited sewing skills, but will include a few simple ways of introducing these into the classroom.
This session is suitable for primary and secondary teachers, school staff and art educators.
All materials and equipment will be provided.
Refreshments and registration is available from 3.45pm for a 4pm start.
Free parking is available – please share your car registration at the Welcome Desk on arrival.
