Luke Fowler

23 Jun - 14 Oct 2012

A major new film commission by 2012 Turner Prize nominee Luke Fowler (b 1978, Glasgow).

Based on research and material from archives in the North of England, the film focused on the work of the radical socialists Edward Palmer-Thompson, Raymond Williams and Richard Hoggart whose influential writing were honed in northern working class communities.

The film The Poor Stockinger, the Luddite Cropper and the deluded followers of Joanna Southcott, 2012 was funded by the Contemporary Art Society’s Commission to Collect (2010) and we worked in partnership with Wolverhampton Art Gallery and Film and Video Umbrella to commission it.

This was the first moving image work to enter our collection.
