Introduction to Hand Built Ceramics

Saturday 1 February 2020, 10.30am - 4pm

Join ceramicist Meghan Downs as she guides you through a range of hand-building techniques to produce your own ceramic sculpture.
Meghan will demonstrate techniques including; slab-building, using plaster moulds to form shapes, coiling and making pinch-pots, which you can combine to build a ceramic sculptural piece. The piece will be bisque fired and returned to you to decorate.

About the tutor

As a Decorative Arts Graduate, Meghan moved to Sheffield to begin the development of her professional ceramic career. Meghan then successfully completed the Yorkshire Artspace Ceramic Starter Studio Programme for Ceramicists in September 2017, and has since occupied her first independent studio at Persistence Works in Sheffield City Centre.

Meghan has exhibited at many well known events, completed commissions and taught ceramics. Her first major achievement was when she was chosen as ‘Newcomer of the Year 2016’ at the British Craft Trade Fair, sponsored by craft&design magazine.
