Curator's Talk - Vision and Reality: 100 Years of Contemporary Art in Wakefield

Thu 4 Mar 2021, 6 - 7pm

Wakefield’s art collection was established in 1923 with the aim of nurturing an understanding of contemporary art and its relation to modern life – a collecting principle still followed by The Hepworth Wakefield today.

Featuring work by Sir Peter Blake, Martin Creed, Anthea Hamilton, LS Lowry, Henry Moore, Lucie Rie, Yinka Shonibare CBE and James Tissot among many others, our current exhibition Vision and Reality: 100 Years of Contemporary Art in Wakefield showcases Wakefield’s significant public art collection.

Join The Hepworth Wakefield Assistant Curator Dr Abi Shapiro online to view many of the works on display and find out more about the history of the gallery, the innovation and ambition of those who shaped the collection and stories surrounding some of the key artworks on display in the exhibition.
