The archive

We house the archive of the former Wakefield Art Gallery, which documents the development of the collection and the exhibition programme from the gallery’s foundation in 1934 to the present day.

The archive includes letters from artists, including Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, press cuttings, photographs, exhibition catalogues and other ephemera, as well as Hepworth’s personal library and a copy of her own complete record of her sculptures, including photographs of the works. The Hepworth Family Gift is also supported by some archival material.

The archive catalogue is not available online but is open for researchers. Please email us if you are interested in booking a time to view it.

The creation of The Hepworth Wakefield’s archive was supported by the Henry Moore Foundation.
