In 2015, Parr was commissioned by The Hepworth Wakefield to create a body of work focused on the Rhubarb Triangle, an area of farmland surrounding the gallery where forced rhubarb is still traditionally produced.
Parr explored the labour-intensive work – done by hand and, in its final stages, by candlelight to prevent photosynthesis – that gives this region of West Yorkshire one of its most fascinating and unique stories.
This photograph shows Martin Bramley at Ouchthorpe Lane Farm, Wakefield, one of the many farmers who attended the opening of Parr’s exhibition The Rhubarb Triangle and Other Stories at the gallery in 2016.
