Eva Rothschild

Eva Rothschild (b. 1971, Dublin, UK) lives and works in London.

Eva Rothschild’s sculptures combine processes of delicate balancing, stacking, entwining, wrapping and knotting around precise hard-edged geometric structures, as well as implying organic forms such as trees or twigs. Often visually reminiscent of minimalist sculpture, the formal clarity of Eva Rothschild’s work is disrupted by the colour and use of materials that hold specific associations, such as leather fringing, posters, perspex, crystal balls and incense.

Solo exhibitions include the Duveens Commission, Cold Corners, Tate Britain (2009), La Conservera, Murcia (2009), South London Gallery (2007); works presented within group shows include Undone: making and un-making in contemporary sculpture, Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, The Dark Monarch, Tate St Ives and Un-monumental: Falling to Pieces in the 21st Century, The New Museum, New York, USA.

Publications include: Eva Rothschild, Konig, 2011 and Eva Rothschild, La Conservera, 2010.

She has works in the collection of Tate, Arts Council, Irish Museum of Modern Art and the Carnegie Museum of Art Collection, Pittsburgh.

‘I tend to think of works together as a group, and to gauge what they might need materially in terms of what the other pieces they are with might lack or benefit from.’

Eva Rothschild: Hot Touch

The Hepworth Wakefield opened with an exhibition of the work of Eva Rothschild.

Hot Touch  featured over 15 new works created by the artist specifically for the temporary exhibition spaces at The Hepworth Wakefield.

The exhibition included meticulously crafted mosaic and beaded works alongside the more formally contained metal or ‘stand’ pieces and also introduced new photographic works by the artist, taken in-situ at the gallery and featuring local residents from Wakefield.
