Andy Holden and Peter Holden: Lecture on Birdsong with live accompaniment from Roger Illingworth (The Grubby Mitts)
Wakefield Museum Create Café
5.30 – 6.30pm – pre-booking required

Join Andy and Peter Holden to explore humankind’s fascination with interpreting birdsong, as well as the influence of avian music on poetry, music and visual art. The talk is structured around six walks, starting off in different directions from their house, echoing Charles Waterton‘s approach to observing nature that is close at hand. Their observations open up to speculations about the nature and science of birdsong, as well as thoughts about conservation and the decline of birdsong across the last fifty years. The talk discusses in detail a number of the species represented in his public sculpture for Wakefield, The Auguries: Last Calls, on display outside Wakefield One.

About the Wakefield Sculpture Trail

The Wakefield Sculpture Trail is an exciting series of sculptures across the city centre. The sculptures have been created by artists Annie Morris, Andy Holden, Halima Cassell, Jason Wilsher-Mills and Ro Robertson and are here for everyone to enjoy.

Over the summer, explore the sculptures and take part in creative activities with a celebration event on Sat 16 Sept to welcome the sculptures to their new home of Wakefield.

All events are FREE and suitable for all ages.
