Death of HM Queen Elizabeth II

The staff, volunteers and trustees of The Hepworth Wakefield are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the Royal Family at this difficult time.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, died peacefully, surrounded by her family at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on 8 September 2022.

We have now entered a period of National Mourning until the end of the day of the State Funeral. The State Funeral will be held on Monday 19 September, which has been declared as a national bank holiday. During this period, The Hepworth Wakefield will operate its usual opening hours, including being closed to the public on Monday 19th September.

For those wishing to pay their respects by laying flowers, you can place floral tributes in Wakefield at: Castleford War Memorial, Ossett War Memorial, Pontefract War Memorial and Wakefield Cathedral.

Wakefield Council has also arranged books of condolence for people to share their sympathies and memories in person at: Castleford Library, Ossett Town Hall and Wakefield Town Hall. These are open 09.00-17.00
