The winner of The Hepworth Wakefield Print Fair Prize was chosen by a panel from The Hepworth Wakefield.

The Hepworth Wakefield is excited to announce the winner of the inaugural Print Fair Prize as James Bywood.

Building upon the success of The Hepworth Wakefield’s popular Print Fair, the award has been developed to further our ongoing work of recognising and supporting artists at all stages in their career. James Bywood received a voucher for materials, courtesy of Hawthorn Printmakers, and will be provided with the opportunity to stage a commercial exhibition in The Hepworth Café later in 2019.

The winner of The Hepworth Wakefield Print Fair Prize was chosen by a panel from The Hepworth Wakefield. The prize was open to all artists participating in The Hepworth Wakefield Print Fair 2019, including those exhibiting as part of a collective.

Rosie Ripley, Retail Development Manager said:

“We were all particularly captivated by James’ use of colour to transform the landscape of familiar sights in Yorkshire and the Lake District. It is evident that James has developed a distinctive style across his portfolio from working initial sketches into multi-layered screenprints. We very much look forward to seeing his work displayed in The Hepworth Café later in the year.”

James Bywood creates stunning graphical interpretations of landscape. His work is inescapably connected to the landscape he grew up in. He was born on the edge of the Peak District in Sheffield and spent many a childhood holiday in the Lake District and Scotland. Now he lives within 30 minutes of the Yorkshire Dales in Leeds. His attachment with the landscape informs everything he creates.
