Razan Alsous came to the UK her husband and three young children after the war in Syria in 2012 and settled in Yorkshire.
She began searching for work but, despite having a pharmacy degree and a scientific background, her lack of references and work history in the UK made finding a job extremely difficult. Looking at other options and the expertise, sources of support and other opportunities she could tap into.
Yorkshire Dama Cheese was created through a small start-up grant and brings together Rasan’s microbiological background with her husband’s experience of supplying Quality Control labs to food industries, along with the readiness of high-quality Yorkshire milk and her passion for great tasting quality squeaky Syrian cheese.
After just four months of production they won the World Cheese Award Bronze Prize 2014/15 and opened a new factory with presence of HRH The Princess Royal on 24 Jan 2017. Since then they have won a range of local and national awards.
