Join Wakefield-based textile artist Helen Riddle for a weekend introduction to felting and stitched surface decoration. Taking inspiration from the garden, you will be guided in combining wet felting techniques, needle felting, machine embroidery and hand stitching to create your own garden hanging or decorative panel.
Starting by learning basic wet felting techniques and looking at The Hepworth garden and planting schemes, you will plan a wet felting background for your panel, making firm foundation layers and adding colour, shape and movement to the surface layer by incorporating different fibres, half-felts and pre-felts.
During day two you will be guided in free-motion embroidery, hand-stitching, using an embellisher and needle felting, finally bringing these techniques into your final panel.
