Family Workshop: Sketchbooks

Sun 12 & Sun 19 Dec, 11am-12pm, 1-2pm & 2.30-3.30pm.

Suitable for families with children aged 4-12.

Book in advance

Make your own sketchbook then fill the pages with experimental drawings inspired by artworks in the galleries.

In the Learning Studios

Artist Jo Blaker will support you to make your own sketchbook using a selection of papers. Personalise your creation by adding colourful stamps and stickers.

In the Gallery

Take your sketchbooks up into the galleries to explore the Barbara Hepworth: Art & Life exhibition. Jo will guide you through the spaces, introducing drawing and mark making techniques inspired by the artworks.  Then choose your own collaborative drawing games from our fun activity cards.

Take your sketchbooks home to continue your drawing adventure.

Please note

There are six family tickets available for each time slot. A family ticket is for up to six people. Children must be accompanied at all times. Younger children may need assistance from an adult in making their sketchbook. We ask that bookings with only one adult attend with no more than three children. This is to ensure that children are suitably supported during the workshop.

Please arrive at the Learning Studios five minutes before the start of your booked workshop. Please keep a safe distance between family groups while queuing. A member of the Learning Team will greet you and check your ticket or booking confirmation on your smartphone.

Adults and children over 11 years are required to wear face coverings while in the building, unless they are exempt for medical reasons. Staff and volunteers will be wearing face coverings.

If you can not make the workshop please cancel your booking so that other families can join the session, even if it is a few hours before.

We will hold places for 10 minutes after the start time but will then invite any waiting families to join after that time.

As part of this workshop you will visit one or two of the gallery spaces. If you wish to visit the full exhibition before or after the workshop, entry to Barbara Hepworth: Art & Life is £12 / £10 / FREE for Wakefield residents, Members and under 16s.
