Concerts at Christmas

Relax, take a break from Christmas shopping and enjoy some uplifting music on Sundays in December at our special concerts.

A pop-up cafe will serve tea, coffee, mulled wine, mince pies and other wintery treats.

Wakefield Metropolitan Brass Band

Sun 3 Dec 2017, 3 – 4.30pm

We are delighted to host a special Christmas concert by Wakefield Metropolitan Brass Band, who join us in full ensemble for a selection of seasonal classics, theatre hits and favourites for all tastes.

Established in 1977, the band achieved 1st place in the second section at the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Championships in 2017 and went on to represent Yorkshire in the second section at the National Brass Band Championships in Cheltenham.

Cantabile Choir

Expect a combination of festive and non-seasonal songs from Cantabile Choir, including specially selected favourites from their recent 10 year anniversary compilation.

Based in North Leeds, Cantabile Choir are a small group of experienced and enthusiastic singers performing a varied repertoire spanning six centuries, including works by contemporary composers. They perform across the region at venues varying from Fountain’s Abbey to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

The Fitzwilliam Quartet

Founded in 1968, the acclaimed Fitzwilliam Quartet are soon to embark on their 50th anniversary season. This December, the quartet join us for an magical afternoon of music by Schubert, including his seminal pieces Death and the Maiden Quartet and A Minor Quartet.

The quartet’s current members are Marcus Barcham Stevens (violin), Alan George (viola), Sally Pendlebury (cello), and Lucy Russell (violin).

St Austin’s Choir

Sun 17 Dec 2017, 3 – 4.10pm

Wakefield-based St Austin’s Choir invite you to join them in celebrating Christmas through an afternoon of carols. The concert will include a performance of selected songs along with an opportunity for the audience to sing along.

Known as one of the best choirs in the area, St Austin’s Choir perform  music from the Renaissance to present day. In 2017 the choir sang at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican in Rome and the Pantheon in Central Rome in 2012.
